Denver Defeats Bison Women Saturday at Scheels Arena, 55-45

FARGO, N.D. – The Denver Pioneers outscored the North Dakota State women's basketball team 29-21 in the second-half to help them to a 55-45 victory over the Bison on Saturday, Feb. 20, at Scheels Arena in front of 1,075 spectators.

The game was the final home contest of the season for the Bison and the final home game for senior Marena Whittle.

North Dakota State (7-20, 2-12 Summit League) is scheduled to close out the 2015-16 regular season with a pair of road games, beginning with a contest at Western Illinois on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 5:30 p.m. in Macomb, Ill.

Sophomore Taylor Thunstedt scored a game-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field to lead the Bison, while junior Brianna Jones pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Bison shot just 29 percent from the floor and 36 percent from three-point range in the game and were outrebounded, 38-36, and outscored in the paint, 30-8.

Samantha Romanowski led three Pioneers (5-23, 3-12 Summit League) in double figures with 12 points. Jordyn Alt led Denver on the boards, snagging a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds and 10 points.

Denver shot 40 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range in the game and compiled 14 points off 12 North Dakota State turnovers.
