STANFORD, Calif.--Darian Tautalafua and Tierra Falo each hit three-run home runs and Cielo Meza struck out 11 as Long Beach State University defeated North Dakota State University 8-1 on Sunday, Feb. 21, during the final day of the Stanford Nike Invitational at Smith Family Stadium. The Bison finished 3-2 at the tournament.
NDSU (5-5) is scheduled to open against Kent State (9-1) at 10 a.m. Central Time in the University of Louisville Red & Blue Classic.
Long Beach State (6-3) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on Tautalafua's three-run shot to left center. The 49ers extended the lead to 6-0 on Falo's three-run homer to left in the fourth inning.
North Dakota State's
Alyssa Reina broke up the Meza's shutout bid with a solo home run to left center in the top of the sixth.
Maritza Lopez-Portillo paced the Bison with a pair of singles.
Long Beach State closed out the scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning on pinch-hitter Irma Sanchez' two-run single. Haley Tobler and Falo each had two hits for the 49ers.
Meza (3-2) recorded the win for Long Beach State. She scattered five hits and walked two to go along with the 11 strikeouts.
Kaitlyn "KK" Leddy (3-3) and
Jacquelyn Sertic pitched for NDSU with Leddy picking up the loss. The pair combined to allow nine hits, strike out two and walk one.
