The North Dakota State men's track & field team will travel to the Summit League Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fort Wayne, Ind., this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27. The Bison will be in search of their fifth Summit League indoor title and the school's first since 2011.
Multi-events action will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET / 8:30 a.m. CT on both days. Running events start at 2 p.m. CT on Friday and noon CT on Saturday inside the IPFW Athletics Center Fieldhouse.
NDSU won four consecutive team championships from 2008-11 before falling short of the team title in each of the last four seasons. South Dakota won the 2015 conference title with 222 points, and NDSU finished second with 171. The Bison were picked to finish second behind South Dakota in the preseason poll in early December.
The Bison men enter the weekend with league leaders in four events: senior Colin Paarmann in the triple jump, junior Alex Renner in the shot put, junior Conrad Schwarzkopf in the weight throw, and redshirt freshman Ryan Enerson in the heptathlon. All four will be vying for their first career Summit League indoor individual title.
NDSU looks to rack up big point totals in the two throwing events once again. The Bison have the league's top six performers in the shot put and the top five performers in the weight throw this season. Sophomore Payton Otterdahl is ranked second in both events, while senior Brandt Berghuis is third in both. Last season, NDSU scored a team-high 47 points in the throwing events at the league meet.
Along with the throws, the Bison will look to place multiple athletes in several events. The Bison men earned six of the top eight places in the heptathlon and swept the top four spots last year, and they enter with the top four performers this season with Kevin Drotts, Grant Mjelstad and Brock Larson behind Enerson.
Senior Jerome Begin, Paarmann and Enerson all rank in the league's top six in the 60m hurdles. Sophomore Landon Jochim and freshman Jacob Richter stand at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, in the 400m dash. Jonah Warwick (ranked third) and Matt Jennings (fifth) will contend for team points in the 800m.
GoBison.com will have video highlights and complete updates at the conclusion of each day of competition. Live updates on placing and team scoring can be found on Twitter at @NDSUTrackField.
