MACOMB, Ill. – The North Dakota State University baseball team fell to Western Illinois, 9-4, in the series finale of a three-game Summit League series on Sunday afternoon, March 20, at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium in Macomb, Ill.
With the loss, the Bison fall to 10-8 overall and 1-2 in Summit League action while WIU improves to 4-14 on the season and 2-1 in league play.
Sophomore infielder
Mason Pierzchalski went 2-for-3 and scored a run to lead North Dakota State at the plate. Senior catcher
Juan Gamez added a pair of base hits and an RBI, while sophomore first baseman
Brayden Resch drove in two runs.
Junior right-hander
Luke Lind took the loss on the mound for the Bison after allowing four runs, three unearned and one earned, on three hits with two walks in 2/3 of an inning to fall to 3-1 on the season.
NDSU was outhit in the contest, 15-5, and committed a season-high four errors.
Chris Tschida and Conner Currier both tallied three hits to pace the Leathernecks, with Currier also driving in a game-high three runs.
Ricky Digrugilliers (1-0) was the winning pitcher for Western Illinois after allowing one hit in 1/3 of an inning.
North Dakota State is scheduled to begin a three-game league series at Omaha on Friday, March 25, at 1 p.m. at the Ballpark at Boys Town in Omaha, Neb.
