Bison Fall at South Dakota State Saturday

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota State University baseball team fell to South Dakota State, 14-7, in the second game of a three-game Summit League series on Saturday, April 16, at Erv Huether Field in Brookings, S.D.

With the setback, the Bison fall to 17-15 overall and 5-9 in league action, while SDSU improves to 12-22 on the season and 8-6 in league play.

Redshirt sophomore Logan Busch collected three hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while junior Ben Petersen hit his third home run of the season and tallied two RBIs to lead North Dakota State.

Right-handed pitcher Alex Rogers (1-2) took the loss on the mound for the Bison after allowing nine runs, four earned, on 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings with two walks and no strikeouts.

NDSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead with five runs in the top of the second-inning. Back-to-back RBI singles from Busch and Drew Fearing scored the first two runs of the inning, before Petersen and Mason Pierzchalski worked bases loaded walks and Brayden Resch was hit by a pitch with the bases filled, driving in the final three runs of the frame.

The Jackrabbits answered, though, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the third to take a 9-5 lead.

First baseman Matt Johnson went 3-for-5 at the plate, including a pair of three-run home runs, and tallied six RBIs to pace the Jackrabbits.

Reliever Landon Busch (5-2) tallied the win for South Dakota State after allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits in 7 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and one walk.

The Bison and Jackrabbits are scheduled to conclude the three-game series on Sunday, April 17, at 1 p.m. at Erv Huether Field.
