Renner Moves Into NCAA Top 10 in Shot Put with New School Record

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior thrower Alex Renner took a big step up the NCAA performance list in the shot put on Saturday to headline the day for the North Dakota State men's track & field team at the Beach Invitational.
For Renner, it was business as usual in the shot put. He extended his NDSU school record for the third consecutive week, throwing 62-04.50 (19.01m) to add another 10 inches to the NDSU all-time best mark. Based on the national performance lists entering the weekend, Renner is now ranked 10th in the NCAA.
Senior Brandt Berghuis also notched a career-best in the shot put, topping 18 meters for the first time. The Rosemount, Minn., native threw 59-02.75 (18.05m) to rank third all-time at NDSU.
Renner finished as the meet runner-up and was the top collegian, while Berghuis took fourth place. Junior Conrad Schwarzkopf was eighth at 55-10.50 (17.03m).
Sophomore sprinter Landon Jochim clocked a career-best 47.34 for fifth place in the 400m dash at Long Beach, moving him up to fourth on the NDSU all-time list.
Senior Parker McKittrick finished eighth in the 110m hurdles in 14.40 seconds, and freshman Karter Gorney ran season-bests of 10.86 in the 100m and 21.83 in the 200m at the Beach Invitational. In the 400m hurdles, Aron Klos crossed the line in 54.60.
NDSU sophomore Brant Gilbertson recorded an 800m PR of 1:53.38 at the Beach Invitational, ranking fifth in The Summit League this season. Matt Jennings ran 1:55.24, John Curley finished in 1:55.61, and Camron Roehl clocked 1:55.91.
Bison senior Beau Kashmark registered a triple jump career-best of 45-05.00 (13.84m).
Sophomores Payton Otterdahl (168-2 / 51.27m) and Steffan Stroh (166-6 / 50.74m) finished 18th and 19th, respectively, in the discus. The duo ranks 1-2 in The Summit League this year.
The Bison will compete at home on Apr. 22-23 next weekend, hosting the Lyle Hokanson Classic at Schlanser Track on the NDSU campus.
