FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University women's soccer team opened the 2016 season with a 3-1 win over the University of Manitoba Bisons in an exhibition match at Dacotah Field on Thursday, Aug. 11.
After Manitoba claimed an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 29th-minute, NDSU wasted no time in netting an equalizer, as
Anna Reinholz controlled a
Mariah Haberle shot off the left post and slotted it into the back of the net three minutes later, leveling the match, 1-1.
The match remained tied until the 52nd-minute, when Haberle netted what proved to be the game-winning goal off a
Lauren Miller assist.
Britney Monteon added a penalty-kick goal in the 85th-minute, making it 3-1.
For the match, NDSU outshot Manitoba, 16-2, and posted a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks taken.
Monica Polgar earned the win in goal for the Bison, going the full 90 minutes between the pipes.
North Dakota State is scheduled to close out exhibition play on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Nebraska. First-kick is slated for 7 p.m.
