FARGO, N.D. – The Drake University Bulldogs netted a goal in the second-half and held on to defeat the North Dakota State University women's soccer team on Friday, Aug. 19, at Dacotah Field in front of 213 spectators in the 2016 regular season opener for both teams.
North Dakota State (0-1-0) is scheduled to take on Northern Iowa (0-0-1) on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. at Dacotah Field.
The Bulldogs (1-0-0) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal off a corner kick from Kasey Hurt in the 68th-minute. Drake's Alex Freeman controlled the kick and tapped the ball into the net near the back post.
The Bison had several chances to net an equalizer during the remaining 22 minutes, but none of NDSU's shots found the back of the net, sealing the win for Drake.

Malley O'Brien each tallied a shot on goal to lead the Bison.
North Dakota State goalkeeper
Monica Polgar collected a pair of saves but suffered the loss between the pipes to fall to 0-1 on the season.
The Bulldogs' Brooke Dennis earned the win in-goal after tallying one save in the second-half to improve to 1-0 overall.
