FARGO, N.D. -- North Dakota State found its block and capitalized on its ninth set point in the second set to defeat Omaha 3-0 (25-19, 33-31, 25-15) in a Summit League match played Friday, Oct. 13, on Pink Out and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
NDSU (13-5, 4-2 SL) has won seven of eight home matches. The Bison host Western Illinois (6-14, 1-4 SL) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15. The Leathernecks lost 3-0 at Denver.
North Dakota State broke the fifth tie of the second set to take a 20-19 lead on a
McKenzie Burke kill. The Bison had set point twice at 24-22 and 24-23 before Omaha stormed back take a 26-25 lead. The second set would be tied six times before
Jessica Jorgensen recorded a kill and
Brianna Rasmusson solo block ended the set and put NDSU ahead 2-0 in the match.
Both teams had a pair of team blocks at the end of the first set, but North Dakota State found its groove at the net with
Allie Mauch,
Bella Lien, Jorgensen and Rasmusson all contributing. The end result was six team blocks. NDSU held a 9-3 advantage overall. Rasmusson, Lien and Mauch each finished with three blocks.
NDSU outhit Omaha .206 to .090 overall led by
Erika Gelzinyte, who had six of her team-high 10 kills in the first set. Mauch had nine kills and hit .400, while Jorgensen followed with seven kills.
McKenzie Burke and Lien each added six kills. Rasmusson completed her stat line with 35 assists, eight digs and four kills.
Mikaela Purnell sparked the Bison defense with a match-high 25 kills, reaching 20-plus for the 12th time this season and 32nd time in her career.
Abbi Klos had 10 digs and three aces, while Burke collected 10 digs.
Bella Slade led the Mavericks with 12 kills, while Abby Bergsten claimed 11. Sydney O'Shaughnessy had 30 assists and 12 digs. Gessica Gdowski led Omaha with 15 digs and a pair of service aces.
