NDSU Softball Drops Pair at Wildcat Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – North Dakota State University lost 1-0 to Boston College and 4-0 to Drake University on Friday, Feb. 17, during the first day of the University of Arizona Wildcat Invitational at Hillenbrand Stadium.
 
NDSU (1-6) is scheduled to play Ball State at 12 noon Central Time and Abilene Christian at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 17.
 
Boston College (5-1) scored the first game's lone run in the top of second. Taylor Coroneos dropped a single into left field to score Annie Murphy with two outs in the frame. Murphy and Coroneos both went 2 for 3 to lead the Eagles.
 
Jessica Dreswick (3-0) limited North Dakota State to two singles, a Zoe Stavrou single in the fourth inning and Madyson Camacho base hit in the fifth. Dreswick struck out six and walked three.
 
Jacquelyn Sertic (1-5) picked up the loss. Sertic struck out 13 batters, allowed five hits and walked two. She reached double-figure strikeouts for the second time this season and eighth time in her career.
 
In the nightcap, Drake's Nicole Newman carried a no-hitter into the seventh before NDSU's Stephanie Soriano doubled down the left field line with one out. Newman struck out 11 and issued no walks to improve to 3-2.
 
The Bulldogs (5-2) scored single runs in the second, third and fourth to take a 3-0 lead. Kaitlyn Finneran had a RBI single in the second, Sarah Maddox delivered a two-out run-scoring single in the third and Abby Buie stole home in the fourth. Tasha Alexander and Maddox each had two hits.
 
Sertic and KK Leddy pitched for the Bison with Sertic taking the loss. The pair combined to allow six hits, struck out five and walked three.
