Anderson Grand Slam Lifts NDSU to 7-3 Win Over College of Charleston

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Vanessa Anderson hit a grand slam to lead North Dakota State to a 7-3 win over the College of Charleston to close out play in the Gamecock Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 26, in Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. The Bison snapped a four-game losing streak.
 
NDSU (4-10) is scheduled to play the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-9) at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, in the opening game of the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational in Lafayette, La.
 
Anderson, a sophomore from Rochester, Minn. (Byron H.S.), hit her first collegiate home run to left field and cleared the bases to highlight the five-run fourth inning. Dani Renner closed out the scoring in the fourth with a RBI single and put the Bison ahead 5-1.
 
The College of Charleston cut the deficit to 5-2 on Taylor Belfiore's home run to center in the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
NDSU added single-runs in the fifth and sixth innings on Bre Beatty's RBI single and Montana DeCamp's sacrifice fly.
 
Jordin Jones led off the seventh with a solo home run for the Cougars (7-4).
 
Jacquelyn Sertic (3-8) went the distance for North Dakota State. Sertic allowed three hits, walked two and struck out one.
 
Sydney Shipley (2-2), Izzy Berouty and Summer Jenkins pitched for the College of Charleston with Shipley picking up the loss. The trio combined to strike out seven and walk five.
