Oral Roberts Downs NDSU Baseball in Summit League Opener Friday

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles rolled to a 9-1 win over the North Dakota State University baseball team in the opening game of Summit League play Friday, March 17, at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

With the loss, NDSU drops to 7-11 overall and 0-1 in league play while ORU improves to 10-7 on the season and 1-0 in league action.

Junior infielder Mason Pierzchalski extended his hit streak to a team-best 17 games with a double, while senior outfielder Ben Petersen, freshman infielder Tucker Rohde and redshirt senior designated hitter JT Core also doubled in the contest, leading North Dakota State at the plate.

Senior right-hander Luke Lind (2-2) suffered the loss on the mound for the Bison after surrendering seven earned runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and no walks in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

NDSU scored its lone run of the game on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning.

Outfielder Noah Cummings went 3-for-4 in the batter's box with a double, and infielder Nick Roark and catcher Matt Whatley both hit solo home runs to pace the ORU offense.

Golden Eagle starting pitcher Justin McGregor (3-0) earned the win after giving up no earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings of work. Reliever Grant Glaze earned his first save of the season after pitching three scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts.

North Dakota State and Oral Roberts are scheduled to play game two of the three-game series Saturday, March 18, at 2 p.m. at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
