MACOMB, Ill. – The North Dakota State University baseball team lost to the Western Illinois University Leathernecks, 5-1, on Saturday, March 25, at Alfred Boyer Stadium in Macomb.
With the setback, NDSU dips to 8-14 on the season and 1-4 in Summit League action while WIU improves to 5-15 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Redshirt senior
JT Core hit his first homer of the season and drove in North Dakota State's lone run, leading the Bison at the plate.
Senior right-handed starter
Reed Pfannenstein (1-4) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing five earned runs on seven hits with four walks and five strikeouts in five innings of work.
Catcher Adam McGinnis went 2-for-3 in the batter's box with two runs scored, a double and two RBIs to pace the Leatherneck offense.
WIU pitcher Preston Church (1-2) earned the victory after throwing eight innings and allowing one earned run on two hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.
North Dakota State and Western Illinois are scheduled to conclude the three-game series with a contest on Sunday, March 26, at 1 p.m. at Alfred Boyer Stadium.
