GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Northern Colorado Bears defeated the North Dakota State University baseball team, 8-2, in the series finale of a four-game set Sunday, March 5, at Jackson Field in Greeley, Colorado.

With the loss, the Bison fall to 6-6 on the season while the Bears improve to 6-7 overall and win the series, 3-1.

Junior infielder Drew Fearing tallied three hits, while senior outfielder Ben Petersen hit his third homer in four games and drove in two runs, leading NDSU at the plate.

North Dakota State left-handed starter Blake Stockert (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing six earned runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk in 3 2/3 innings.

After Northern Colorado took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first, Petersen put the Bison in front, 2-1, after he hit his team-high fifth homer of the season in the third inning.

The lead was short-lived, though, as the Bears tied the game, 2-2, in the bottom-half of the inning on an RBI single.

The Bears took control of the contest with five runs in the fourth, and added a run in the eighth to secure the 8-2 victory.

Outfielder Cole Maltese went 2-for-4 at the plate with a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead Northern Colorado in the batter's box.

UNC's Keenan Lum (1-1) tallied the win on the mound after allowing two earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and no walks in six innings of work.

North Dakota State is scheduled to face St. Bonaventure in the opening game of a three-game series Friday, March 10, at 12:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. CT) in Winter Haven, Fla.
