FARGO, N.D. –
Mason Pierzchalski hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth to lift the North Dakota State University baseball team to a 3-2 win over the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers on a cool Tuesday evening, April 18, at Newman Outdoor Field.
With the victory, the Bison improve to 18-18 on the season.
Bennett Hostetler led-off the bottom of the ninth with a single up the middle, before advancing to second base on
Drew Fearing's sacrifice bunt. Pierzchalski stepped to the plate and powered a 1-0 pitch over the center fielder's head, allowing Hostetler to cross home plate to seal the win for NDSU.
Pierzchalski led the Bison at the plate for the game, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Hostetler and
Ben Petersen each collected a pair of hits.
NDSU left-hander
Blake Stockert (2-1) earned the victory on the mound for North Dakota State after giving up no earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk in four innings.
The Tigers (15-21) gained a 2-0 lead after scoring a run on an error and RBI single in the top of the third inning before the Bison plated a run in the fifth and seventh to knot the contest, 2-2.
Outfielder Jerrod Zens went 3-for-3 in the batter's box with a run scored to pace Dakota Wesleyan.
DWU reliever Steven Somerville suffered the loss after giving up the game-winning run in the ninth inning.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host the Omaha Mavericks in the first game of a key three-game Summit League series Friday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
