FARGO, N.D.--Erica Tharp and Nickhole Finch combined on a four-hitter as IUPUI defeated North Dakota State 3-1 in the opener, while Jaguars rallied from a four-run deficit for a 11-9 win in the second to complete the Summit League softball doubleheader sweep over NDSU on Saturday, April 8, before 180 spectators at the Ellig Sports Complex. The IUPUI sweep snapped the Bison 36-game Summit League win streak dating back to April 3, 2015.

North Dakota State (3-2 SL, 15-23) and IUPUI (5-0 SL, 15-20) are scheduled to close out the three-game series at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 9, at the Ellig Sports Complex.

The Jaguars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one with Taylor Chitwood's two-run home run to left field. Chitwood went 2-for-3 to lead IUPUI, which finished with seven hits overall.

NDSU cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Julia Luciano led off with a single, moved to second on a Tabby Heinz sacrifice bunt and scored on Madyson Camacho's two-out double to left center.

Roni Patterson led off the top of the sixth with a home run to quickly extend the IUPUI lead to 3-1.

Tharp (6-10) scattered four hits and struck out three over the first five innings to earn the win. Finch allowed one walk over the final two innings to pick up her second save of the season.

Jacquelyn Sertic (11-17) struck out seven and issued no walks in taking the loss.

IUPUI rallied from a 6-2 deficit to tie the game at 6-all in the top of the fifth and then exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh. Delilah Wright broke the tie with a RBI single to left, then Patterson delivered a two-run double and Mandy Dallas hit a two RBI single -- both with two outs -- to put the Jaguars up 11-6.

North Dakota State rallied with three in the bottom of the seventh. Heinz stroke a two-run double to left center and Stephanie Soriano cracked a solo home run to left. Vanessa Anderson and Soriano both hit a pair of home runs to tie the school single-game record. Anderson did for the second straight weekend, while Soriano hit her first two collegiate home runs. The NDSU home run record has been achieved by 16 players on 28 occasions.

Both first-game starters, Tharp for the Jaguars and Sertic for the Bison, figured in the second game decision. Tharp picked up her second win in relief of Finch. Tharp allowed eight hits, struck out four and walked three over the final 5.1 innings. Sertic took the loss in relief of KK Leddy. Sertic allowed eight hits, walked three and struck out two over the final 4.2 innings.

IUPUI finished with 15 hits led by Delilah Wright and McKenzie Loge, who both collected three hits. Alyssa Matson, Delaney Thompson and Patterson all finished with two hits.

Soriano and Heinz each had three hits for NDSU, which finished with 14 overall. Montana DeCamp and Anderson both added two hits.
