FARGO, N.D. – South Dakota was led by Emily Winkler and Jessica Rogers Wednesday afternoon in the Coyotes' 11-4 victory over Omaha in the first round of The Summit League Championship at the Ellig Sports Complex.
Starting pitcher Rachel Cue held the Mavericks to six hits to earn the victory. The Coyotes (22-30) advance to play top-seeded IUPUI in the four-team, double-elimination tournament Thursday while Omaha ends its season with a 15-30 record.
Christy Warnock drove in the first three runs of the game on a double to center in the top of the second. Taylor Steinfedt hit a three-run long ball in the bottom of three. Both
Turning Point
Vicky Kinney of Omaha cut the lead in half with a two-run homer, 4-2 in the top of the third. Steinfedt had a three-run shot for the Coyotes only long ball of the game. South Dakota pushed another three runs across in the bottom of the fourth.
Inside The Box Score
- Winckler and Rogers led USD with four hits each. Winckler was four-of-four with two RBI and earned her 29th walk of the season.
- Vicky Kinney and Lia Mancuso each hit a two-run home run for Omaha. Kinney's came in the top of the third. Mancuso's came in the fifth.
- Steinfedt hit her 12th homerun of the season.
- USD left 10 runners on-base, Omaha left three.

FARGO, N.D. – Western Illinois senior Holly Hoelting hits walk-off grand slam to defeat the sixth-seed South Dakota State Jackrabbits 12-8 in the first round of The Summit League Championship Wednesday evening at the Ellig Sports Complex.
Abbot picked up her fourth win of the year throwing 3 full innings. She struck out four Jackrabbit batters while allowing only four hits.
Western Illinois (22-30) advances to play No. 2 North Dakota State Thursday in a four-team, double-elimination tournament while South Dakota State's season ends with a record of 19-36.
The Jackrabbits opened the scoring in the top of the third inning with a double to right field from Brittney Morse, scoring Herdliska and Ponce. McQuistan homered to center to give the them an early 4-0 lead.
Kelsey Marlow was finally able to get WIU on the scoreboard with a solo home run. Messer homered to right center in the fourth, cutting the lead in half. In the fifth Hope relieves Bender and the Leathernecks are able to put a few hits together to put one more up on the board.
South Dakota State's Andersen hits a two-run bomb to right. WIU's Marlow had a triple, scoring Ralphs from second. Before Duwa hit's a two-run shot for the Leathernecks, putting them with in one run.
Western Illinois tied the game at the top of the 7th with a solo homerun by Abbott. Bender returned to the game for the Jackrabbits on the mound. Hoelting sent one deep to center field to end a tied game in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off grand slam.
Turning Point
In the bottom of the fourth, Taylor Messer of WIU hit a solo shot to right center, putting the Leathernecks down 6-2, changing the momentum of the game. Halle Hollatz would drove in one run in the fifth before Western Illinois had a huge sixth inning scoring four and making it a one run game.
