FARGO, N.D. – South Dakota State junior forward Mike Daum scored 37 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead SDSU to an 87-80 win over the North Dakota State men's basketball team on Wednesday night at the Scheels Center.

NDSU senior guard Paul Miller scored a career-high 36 points to lead the Bison, including a 7-for-11 performance from three-point range.

SDSU improved to 13-5 overall and 1-0 in The Summit League with the win, and NDSU fell to 8-7 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Jackrabbits shot 51 percent for the game – the second-best field goal percentage for a Bison opponent this season.

NDSU led by as many as 11 points in the first half, going up 27-16 on a three by Miller with 10:22 left in the half. The Jackrabbits came back to take a brief lead at 45-43, but Cameron Hunter was fouled on a three-point attempt with 0.3 seconds on the clock and knocked down all three free throws to put the Bison up 46-45 at the break.

The Bison held a 51-47 advantage early in the second half before a 9-0 SDSU run gave the Jackrabbits the lead for good. NDSU pulled within two following a Tyson Ward layup that made it 57-55 with just over 15 minutes remaining, but SDSU answered with a 12-2 run to put the game out of reach.

Redshirt freshman Cameron Hunter added 10 points and six rebounds for NDSU, and A.J. Jacobson and Spencer Eliason both scored nine.

NDSU had won 11 of the last 12 meetings with SDSU in Fargo before Wednesday night.

The Bison will travel to Vermillion, S.D., to take on South Dakota on Saturday, Jan. 6.
