DELAND, Fla. - San Francisco went on an 11-0 run over the last 5:28 of the first half, as the Dons beat the North Dakota State women's basketball team 75-42 Wednesday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.
The Dons opened the game on an 8-2 run, as the Bison had just two points until a 3-pointer by
Sofija Zivaljevic with 5:00 left in the opening frame. A 3-pointer by
Michelle Gaislerova with 1:00 left in the quarter cut the lead to three, but a layup by Marta Galic ended the scoring in the first quarter with the Dons ahead 19-14.
Back-to-back layups by
Tyrah Spencer and Zivaljevic with 5:50 to play in the first half cut the lead to 23-20, but the Dons took over from there. San Francisco ended the half on an 11-0 run to take a 34-20 lead at the break.Â
With the lead at 12 with 7:24 left in the third quarter, San Francisco went on a 13-4 run over a 5:59 span to push the lead to 51-30 before Zivaljevic hit a free throw with :10 left in the third quarter, leaving San Francisco with a 51-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Dons went on a 13-0 run over a 4:34 span of the fourth quarter before a pair of free throws by
Cirkeline Rimdal made it 75-42. The Bison didn't hit a field goal in the final 6:08 of the game.
Zivaljevic led the Bison with a career-high 11 points off the bench, while
Emily Dietz joined her in double figures with 10 points. Gaislerova, who had scored in double figures in 11-straight games, was held to nine points. Shannon Powell led the Dons with a game-high 22 points.
Marina Fernandez led NDSU with five rebounds, while
Rylee Nudell and Dietz each had three boards. Fernandez had three assists, while Spencer tied a career-high with two steals.Â
NDSU was 16-of-44 (36.4%) from the field and 2-of-15 (13.3%) from 3-point range. The Dons were 33-of-58 (56.9%) from the floor and 3-of-10 from downtown. The Bison were 8-of-13 (61.5%) at the free throw line, while San Francisco was 6-of-7 (85.7%) at the charity stripe. The Dons controlled the specialty stats, holding advantages in points in the paint (48-20), points off turnovers (23-13), second chance points (11-3) and bench points (27-16).
The Bison return to action on Friday, Dec. 21, as they face Stetson on the final day of the 31st Annual Hatter Classic.
