SAN DIEGO, Calif. – North Dakota State lost 4-1 to host San Diego State and was blanked 2-0 by No. 25-ranked Kentucky during the second day of the Campbell/Cartier Classic on Saturday, Feb. 17, before 152 spectators in SDSU Softball Stadium.

NDSU (4-5) closes out tournament play against Cal State Fullerton (3-3) at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18. The Titans are playing Kentucky tonight.

San Diego State (2-8) did all of its scoring in the third inning in the 4-1 win. Megan Smith knocked in the first run with a single, then Molly Sturdivant connected for a three-run home run. Katie Byrd and Shelby Thompson each had two hits for the Aztecs.

Marissa Morena (1-2) worked the first 6.1 innings to earn the win for SDSU. She allowed six hits, walked two and struck out one.

North Dakota State averted the shutout in the top of the seventh.
Montana DeCamp doubled, moved to third on a foul out and scored on a passed ball.

Kara O'Byrne (0-1) and
KK Leddy worked on the mound for NDSU with O'Byrne taking the loss. The pair combined to allow eight hits and strike out one.

Autumn Humes fired a no-hitter and the Kentucky (4-2) offense pieced together runs late for the win. Humes (1-0) struck out three and walked a pair on 75 pitches.

Kentucky scored the game's first run in the top of the sixth. Erin Rethlake singled with one out, stole second and scored on a Bison throwing error to take a 1-0 lead, and then tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on Lauren Johnson's two-out single. Brooklin Hinz led the Wildcats with a double and single.

Jacquleyn Sertic (3-3) was tagged with the loss. Sertic scattered five hits, struck out four and walked two.
