GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Northern Colorado Bears rolled to a seven-inning, 17-4 victory over the North Dakota State University baseball team in the series opener of a four-game series Friday, March 2, at Jackson Field.
North Dakota State (4-5) and Northern Colorado (5-3) are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday, March 3, beginning at noon MT.
Senior
Mason Pierzchalski went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, and fellow senior
Matt Elsenpeter tallied two hits in three at bats with a double and two runs scored, leading NDSU at the plate.
Sophomore right-hander
Riley Johnson (2-1) suffered the loss on the mound for the Bison after surrendering eight earned runs on 11 hits with three walks and one strikeout in 2 1/3 innings.
Austin Miller went 3-of-3 with three runs scored, and Cole Maltese drove in a game-high four runs, pacing the Bears offensively.
Northern Colorado outhit NDSU, 17-8, in the game.
Isaac Bracken (1-0) earned the win for the Bears after allowing two earned runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts in five innings of work.
