Oral Roberts Scores Late to Secure Series Sweep of NDSU Baseball, 6-5

Box Score

TULSA, Okla. – Nick Rotola hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a tie game and help the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles earn a three-game series sweep over the North Dakota State University baseball team with a 6-5 victory Saturday, March 31, at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

North Dakota State (11-14, 4-5 Summit League) is scheduled to travel to Omaha, Neb., to face the Omaha Mavericks in a three-game Summit League series April 6-8 at Seymour Smith Park.

Redshirt junior Jayse McLean tallied two hits, including his third homer of the season, two RBI and a run scored to pace the Bison at the plate. Logan Busch, Tucker Rohde and Sean Noel also had two hits each in the game.

NDSU reliever Kevin Folman (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound after giving up what turned out to be the game-winning home run. Folman surrendered only one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks in 5 2/3 innings.

After Oral Roberts (16-10, 7-2 Summit League) plated five runs in the bottom of the second inning to jump out to a 5-0 advantage, the Bison rallied, scoring four run in the top of the fourth and one run in the top of the sixth to tie the game.

Rotola led the Golden Eagles in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with a homer, run scored and RBI.

ORU reliever Grant Townsend (3-0) earned the victory after allowing no earned runs on no hits with one strikeout in 2/3 of an inning. Closer Kyler Stout secured his Summit League-high seventh save of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth inning with three strikeouts.
