No. 21 Minnesota Takes Pair from NDSU

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – No. 21-ranked Minnesota defeated North Dakota State by the scores of 3-0 and 6-1 in a non-league doubleheader played Tuesday, May 1, before 622 spectators at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.
 
NDSU (27-17, 7-3 SL) is scheduled to host Western Illinois (17-27, 9-3 SL) in a Summit League doubleheader at noon Saturday, May 5, at the Ellig Sports Complex.

Amber Fiser tossed a one-hitter in game one as Minnesota (34-14) did its scoring in the fifth inning. Maddie Houlihan delivered a two-out, two-run double to left field, while Sydney Dwyer followed with a RBI single.
 
Fiser improved to 24-8 with four strikeouts and one walk. She threw 52 strikes out of 77 pitches.
 
Stephanie Soriano beat out an infield single with one out in the fifth inning for NDSU's only hit.
 
Jacquelyn Sertic (20-9) took the loss. Sertic walked one and struck out one. Katie Shoultz made a career-high five putouts in center field and took away a home run in left center.
 
In the nightcap, Minnesota scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead.
 
North Dakota State cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the fifth when Bre Beatty collected a two-out RBI single up the middle to score Madyson Camacho. Beatty led the Bison with two hits.
 
Houlihan put the game out of reach with a three-run home run down the right field line. Houlihan went 3-for-4 in the second game with four RBI. She finished the doubleheader with four hits and six RBI.
 
Carlie Brandt (7-2) recorded the win and Sydney Smith pocketed her first save for Minnesota.
 
KK Leddy (6-7) took the loss for NDSU. Leddy struck out two and walked two.
