NDSU Drops Pair to No. 10 Arizona & Mississippi State, Eliminated From NCAA Tucson Regional

TUCSON, Ariz. – North Dakota State lost 6-0 to No. 10-ranked Arizona and 12-0 in five innings to Mississippi State, and was eliminated from the NCAA Tucson Regional on Saturday, May 19, during the second day of the tournament played before 1,515 spectators at Arizona's Hillenbrand Stadium.
 
NDSU finishes the season with a 34-19 record.
 
Taylor McQuillin pitched a two-hit shutout, and Reyna Carranco and Dejah Mulipola both knocked in a pair of runs as the tournament's No. 14-seed Arizona (42-14) advanced to Sunday's championship game against Mississippi State (38-22).
 
McQuillin (27-10) struck out nine and walked one in the complete game win. She allowed a pair of two-out singles, one in the bottom of the second to Montana DeCamp and another to Madyson Camacho in the fifth inning.
 
Jenna Kean went 4-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Wildcats, while Carranco and Mulipola both added two hits.
 
Jacquelyn Sertic (26-10) picked up the loss. Sertic allowed 10 hits, walked four, struck out three and hit two batters. She had 141 pitches compared to 93 for McQuillin. Sertic moved to No. 3 all-time NDSU with 940 strikeouts.
 
Mississippi State bolted out of the gate with six runs in the first inning to cruise to the elimination game victory. The Bulldogs added a pair of runs in the second and sealed the win with four in the top of the fifth including a three-run home run from Reggie Harrison.
 
Harrison went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored to spark Mississippi State, while teammate Emily Heimberger also finished 3-for-4. Kat Moore and Morgan Bell both added two hits. The Bulldogs beat Saint Francis 11-5 in Saturday's second game.
 
MSU pitcher Holly Ward (15-9) kept the Bison off-balance and off the scoreboard, allowing just two hits – a Stephanie Soriano single up the middle in the first inning and an infield hit by Katie Shoultz in the third. Ward struck out two.
 
KK Leddy (7-8) was tagged with the loss. She allowed 13 hits, walked three and struck out two.
