Stone, Bison Distance Runners Shine in California

TORRANCE, Calif. – The North Dakota State distance and mid-distance runners recorded standout performances at a pair of meets in southern California, headlining the efforts of the Bison men's track & field team on Friday night.
Junior Elliott Stone (Bismarck, N.D.) cut two seconds off his 5,000m personal-best at the Mt. SAC Relays, running 14:20.03 to win his section. He ranks fourth-fastest in NDSU history.
Freshman Beau Brannan ran an 800m personal-best time of 1:53.11 at the Mt. SAC Relays – the fastest time by a Bison this season.
Tim Heikkila ran the second-fastest 1500m time of his career at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific, finishing in 3:49.46. He ranks fifth-fastest in NDSU history in the event.
Behind Heikkila, five other Bison men recorded significant personal-best times in the 1500m:
At the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State, sophomore Brendan Artley threw 212-9 (64.86m) in the javelin, coming within one inch of his season-best mark. Redshirt freshman Benji Phillips (Glasgow, Mont.) posted a personal-best throw of 209-4 (63.82m).
