SAINT PAUL, Minn. - In the final exhibition match of the season, the Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated the North Dakota State women's soccer team 3-0 at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
Minnesota scored the first two goals in the opening period, with Katie Duong finding the back of the net both times. The first came in the 15th minute, as Monica Polgar blocked a penalty kick, but Duong recovered the block and scored. Just under four minutes later, Duong took a pass from Patricia Ward for the goal. In the 56th minute, Megan Gray scored the final goal of the match.
Mariah Haberle had four shots for NDSU, including two on goal. Marian Taiwo, Ellie Schneider, Paige Goaley, Sydney Johnson and Kate Swanis also had a shot. Polgar had 10 saves in 70:18, while Aly Cole had a pair of saves in 19:42.
The Bison will open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 23, against Saint Mary's. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Dacotah Field.
