Bison Women Lead Maverick Invitational After Opening Round

OMAHA, Neb. - The North Dakota State women's golf team opened the 2020-21 season on Monday at the Maverick Invitational at the Creek. NDSU shot a 310 in the opening round to hold the lead.
A pair of Bison are tied for second, as Taylor McCorkle and Alexis Thomas each shot a 76. McCorkle had a birdie on the 16th, while Thomas added a pair of birdies on the front nine. Maddie Herzog was just a stroke behind McCorkle and Thomas, finishing with a 77 to sit in fourth place. Herzog opened the back nine with a birdie on the 10th.
Lexi Geolat shot an 81 and is tied for eighth after shooting three birdies in the opening round. Leah Skaar rounded out the NDSU lineup with an 88, as she is in 12th. Playing as individuals, Catherine Monty is in seventh with an 80, while Holly Murphy is in 10th with an 85. Monty had a birdie on the 15th hole.
NDSU has a seven stroke lead over Omaha for the lead. Omaha's Mandi Granato has the individual lead with a 72 after the first round.
The final day gets underway at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Indian Creek Golf Course.
