Talley Launches Bison Back Into Action at Dakota Duals

FARGO, N.D. – Senior Alex Talley posted a pair of nationally significant marks in the throwing events to highlight the return to action for the North Dakota State men's track & field team Friday at the Dakota Duals.
 
Talley swept the titles in both throwing events, launching a personal-best 75-01.75 (22.90m) to win the weight throw – a mark that would have ranked fourth in the NCAA last season. He followed up by winning the shot put with a throw of 63-05.50 (19.34m).
 
The Bison defeated North Dakota in the team dual format, winning by a score of 109.5 to 32.5.
 
NDSU senior Alex Bartholomay was the 3,000m champion in a new meet-record time of 8:24.91.
 
Bison senior Tony Ukkelberg won the pentathlon, scoring 3,796 points to rank fourth in NDSU history. Eric VanErp scored 3,509 points for runner-up honors and now ranks 10th all-time at NDSU.
 
NDSU junior Jacob Rodin won the 800m in 1:54.36, and sophomore Jackson Tracy was the runner-up in 1:56.73.  Josh Knutson (49.12) and Adrian Harris (49.15) finished 1-2 in the 400m dash.
 
Josh Samyn won the mile in 4:16.68, and Jakob Hanna was second in 4:19.07.
 
Sophomore Trent Davis won the 60m hurdles in his season opener, running 8.28 seconds.
 
Freshman Dante White won the 60m dash in his collegiate debut, running a personal-best 6.91 seconds in his first race as a Bison. Alex Brosseau took first in the 200m dash (22.51) and second in the 60m (7.05).
 
Noah Shafer won the pole vault, matching his indoor personal-best at 16-1 (4.90m). Sophomore Elijah Hylen won the high jump, clearing 6-7 (2.01m) to open the season.
 
Luke Foertsch took first in a pair of events, posting a mark of 22-06.75 (6.88m) in the long jump and 45-02.25 (13.77m) in the triple jump. Freshman Hunter Merkley was the long jump runner-up in his collegiate debut, jumping 22-1 (6.73m).
 
Trevor Otterdahl was the runner-up in the weight throw with a mark of 68-11.75 (21.02m), and Maxwell Otterdahl took third at 63-06.00 (19.35m).
