Hunter’s Heroics Lift Bison to 71-60 Win at Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The North Dakota State men's basketball team closed the game on a 26-8 run over the final 6:30 to pull out a 71-60 road victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday evening at the Gates Sports Center.
 
The Bison trailed 52-45 with 6:30 remaining before a 12-1 run put NDSU back on top for good. Bison junior Cameron Hunter scored 14 of his season-high 20 points in the final seven minutes of the game.
 
NDSU improved to 16-7 overall and 7-2 in The Summit League.
 
NDSU senior Vinnie Shahid led all players with 22 points, and added six rebounds and three assists.
 
The Bison led 31-20 at halftime after closing the first half on a 14-0 run. Purdue Fort Wayne stormed back to take a seven-point lead, its largest of the game, at the 52-45 margin.
 
With the Mastodons trailing 60-58 and 2:30 on the clock, the Bison closed the game on an 11-2 run.
 
NDSU shot 59 percent in the second half, and 47 percent overall for the game. This is the first time in school history that the Bison won in Fort Wayne in back-to-back seasons.
 
NDSU plays next at Omaha on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
