FARGO, N.D. –
Ali Hinze and Reagen Reilly each tallied a double-double as North Dakota State fell short against South Dakota, 3-2, on senior day on Saturday afternoon at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
Reilly logged her fourth straight and ninth double-double of the season with a team-best 41 assists and 15 digs. She also added five kills, three blocks and one service ace to her stat line. Hinze notched her team-high 15th double-double of the season with 15 kills and 13 digs, while
Syra Tanchin added in 17 kills with a .289 hitting percentage.
South Dakota (18-9, 15-3 Summit) opened the contest running out to an 11-1 edge. NDSU (12-18, 6-12 Summit) attempted to get a comeback started rattling off four unanswered points to cut the deficit to 16-10 following a kill from
Kirstin Tidd. The Coyotes went on to hold off the Bison the rest of the way to win the frame, 25-16.
NDSU pushed back in the second set opening up an 11-7 advantage after an ace from Hinze. The Coyotes then stormed back assembling a 5-0 run to steal the lead, 19-16. NDSU battled back to regain the lead, 22-21, following a kill from Boling. The Bison didn't look back from there and went on to take the set, 25-23.
Both teams traded points in the third set to deadlock the score, 13-13. The Coyotes then assembled a momentum-swinging 5-0 run to build an 18-13 advantage. South Dakota closed out the set, 25-18.
The Bison surged back in the fourth set building a 14-8 lead by the midway point. NDSU continued to apply pressure extending its edge up to 20-11 after a kill from Reilly. NDSU went on to win the fourth stanza, 25-15.
The fifth frame saw a match-high 13 tie scores and four lead changes. NDSU was able to grab a late one-point edge, 16-15, after a kill from Hinze. However, the Coyotes closed the match on a 3-0 run to seal the win, 18-16, and the match, 3-2.
