OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State volleyball team fell short at Omaha, 3-0, on Thursday night.
With the loss, NDSU drops to 11-15 (5-9 Summit) , while Omaha improves to 15-8 (12-1 Summit) on the season.
Ali Hinze reached double digits in digs for the 13th time this season with a team-best 14 and also added in three kills.
Syra Tanchin connected on five kills, while
Raegen Reilly passed out eight assists.
Both teams traded points to open the contest until the Mavericks put together a 3-0 run to take an 18-12 advantage. NDSU pushed back with a 3-0 run of its own following a kill from Tanchin and capitalizing on two attack errors to pull back within three, 18-15. However, Omaha held off the Bison the rest of the way to take the set, 25-16.
The Mavericks carried the momentum over into the second stanza racing out to an 8-1 lead to force a Bison timeout. NDSU attempted to get a comeback started cutting the deficit in half, 10-5, following a kill from Tanchin. The Mavericks controlled the pace the rest of the way to win the set, 25-12.
After Omaha raced out to a 13-5 lead in the third frame,
Alexis Boling attempted to get a rally started connecting on back-to-back kills to make the score 13-7. The Mavericks then responded with seven unanswered points to extend their lead up to 20-7. Omaha closed out the set, 25-10, and went on to earn the sweep, 3-0.
NDSU will wrap its road trip at Denver (19-3,10-2 Summit) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
