BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team claimed a pair of individual titles and opened a slight lead in the team race on the opening day of the Summit League Indoor Championships Saturday. The Bison have 64 points after five events, leading South Dakota State's 56.5 points and South Dakota's 50.

Alex Talley led a Bison sweep of the top three places in the weight throw, winning the Summit League title at 72-00.25 (21.95m). NDSU junior
Brandon Lewis claimed the long jump crown, leaping 24-02.25 (7.37m) for the win.

The NDSU men totaled 25 team points in the weight throw, with
Trevor Otterdahl the runner-up at 71-00.50 (21.65m) and
Maxwell Otterdahl taking third with a personal-best 68-01.50 (20.76m). Max moved up to No. 5 on the NDSU all-time list.

The Bison finished 1-5-6-8 in the long jump for 18 team points. Behind Lewis, senior
Tony Ukkelberg placed fifth, freshman
Dante White was sixth, and sophomore
Elijah Hylen took eighth.

Jakob Hanna took Summit League runner-up honors in the 3000m, finishing in 8:18.42 to rank fourth in NDSU indoor history.
Alex Bartholomay finished third to give NDSU the 2-3 finish.

Keiser Freetly,
Jacob Levin,
Beau Brannan and
Isaac Huber placed fourth in the distance medley relay, running 10:08.73 for the eighth-fastest time in school history.

Redshirt freshman
Jens Christensen placed seventh in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 15-10 (4.83m).

After Day 1 of the heptathlon, the Bison men are in position to score big on Sunday. Senior
Tony Ukkelberg stands in first with 3,153 points, junior
Eric VanErp is in third with 2,939 points, and junior
Tyler Enerson is fourth with 2,707. Ukkelberg posted the top mark in three of the four events contested on Saturday.

The Bison are also loaded up in the 400m final, with
Josh Knutson (47.72),
Darrien Lipscomb (47.81),
Cody Roder (47.97), and
Adrian Harris (48.20) all advancing among the top six prelim times.

In the 800m, NDSU has three finalists in
Jacob Rodin,
Keiser Freetly and
Josh Samyn.

Trent Davis (8.09 – second-fastest time of his career) and
Eric VanErp (personal-best 8.36) advanced to the 60m hurdles final.

Freshman
Dante White raced into the finals of the 60m dash, running a season-best 6.89 seconds.
Alex Brosseau qualified sixth for the 200m dash final, running 21.85 in the prelims.

Action resumes on Sunday with the heptathlon 60m hurdles at 9:30 a.m. Field events start at 11:30 a.m. and noon, and running events begin at 1 p.m.
