GREELEY, Colo. – The North Dakota State baseball team topped Northern Colorado, 9-5, to extend its win streak to five games on Saturday afternoon at Jackson Field.
Northern Colorado (6-18, 3-2 Summit) jumped out to the early lead notching one run in the first and one in the third to make the score 2-0.
Logan Williams responded for the Bison (14-8, 2-0 Summit) with his team-high eighth home run of the season to cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the fourth inning.
Terrell Huggins then capped off the big frame with a momentum-shifting three RBI home run to left field to steal the lead, 4-2.
The Bears battled their way back to lock the contest, 4-4, in the sixth inning after Shayden Kubo reached on a fielder's choice to score Chase Cromer. Following a scoreless seventh inning, Huggins once again sparked the Bison sending an RBI double down the right field line to regain the lead, 5-4. The Bison went on to add four more insurance runs in the frame, including a home run from
Brock Anderson to help secure the 9-5 win.
The Bison totaled 11 hits as a team, including three home runs. The Bison have hit at least one home run in each of their last seven consecutive games. Huggins tied a season-high four RBI to go along with two hits and two runs.
Tristen Roehrich (3-1) earned his third win of the season tossing five strikeouts over the final 3.2 innings.
Cade Feeney made the start on the mound and tied a career-high seven strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
NDSU will wrap up its series at Northern Colorado tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. CT
