LONG BEACH, Calif. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 25/RV Long Beach State on Saturday night.
Peter Brookshaw put NDSU (5-5) on the scoreboard, 1-0, after he connected on his second home run of the season in the first inning. Long Beach State (3-6) quickly answered in the bottom half locking the contest, 1-1, following an RBI single from Eddie Saldivar. After a scoreless second frame, the Dirtbags added on two runs in third and one in the fourth to steal the lead, 4-1.
Brookshaw attempted to get a comeback started for the Bison with an RBI double down the right field line to cut the deficit in half, 4-2. However, Long Beach State added on an insurance run after Peyton Schulze delivered an RBI single down the right side to put the contest out of reach, 5-2.
The Bison totaled five hits with Brookshaw setting the pace with a team-high two hits, two RBI and one run.
Evan Sankey (2-1) made his third start of the season tossing two strikeouts over 6.1 innings.
Wyatt Nelson closed out the final 1.2 innings on the hill and totaled two strikeouts.
NDSU will wrap up its three-game series against Long Beach State tomorrow. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. CT.
