LAFAYETTE, La. – In a match that featured 22 ties and seven total lead changes, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley edged North Dakota State, 3-0, at the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic at Earl K. Long Gym on Saturday morning.

Michelle Glover paced the Bison (4-2) with a team-high 12 kills and three blocks. Kelley Johnson registered her third double-double of the season with a team-best 30 assists and 11 digs. Syra Tanchin rounded out the top performers with 11 digs and seven kills.

Both teams battled through the first frame that featured 11 ties and three lead changes. After trading points throughout the set, Ava Schmoll locked the contest, 22-22, with a service ace. UTRGV (6-1) responded with a 3-0 run to win the frame, 25-22.

Both teams continued to exchange points into the second set until UTRGV opened up a 19-16 edge. Following a timeout, the Bison battled back to pull within one, 19-18, after Logan O'Brien added her second ace of the match. However, UTRGV went on to hold off NDSU the rest of the way, 25-22.

The Vaqueros started fast in the third set taking advantage of attack errors to double up the Bison, 10-5. NDSU fought back assembling a late 5-0 run to pull back within three, 21-18, after an attack error. UTRGV responded to close out the frame with a 4-1 run to seal the win, 25-19, and the match, 3-0.

The Bison will make their home debut against Chicago State on Friday in the NDSU Tournament. First serve is set for 10 a.m. at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
