ST. PAUL, Minn. – North Dakota State soccer overcame being reduced to 10 in the second half to earn a 0-0 draw on the road in Summit League play against St. Thomas at South Field on Sunday, Oct. 1.
After a scoreless first half, the Bison were reduced to 10 players after
Jess Hanley was shown a red card in the 60
th minute. Despite being outnumbered the rest of the way, NDSU controlled most of the remainder of the game, but were unable to convert their chances.
The Bison would fire six shots over the final 30 minutes including multiple efforts from
Alicia Nead and
Paige Goaley, forcing nine saves total for St. Thomas goalkeeper Olivia Rowe. NDSU would allow just two shots from distance on target, as NDSU goalkeeper
Abby Wilkinson finished with two comfortable saves for her ninth career shutout.
NDSU was dominant early in the game as well, and were denied a penalty claim in the opening minutes of the game, as
Paige Goaley appeared to be taken down in the box in the fifth minute. Goaley also forced another save moments later and
Tyreese Zacher forced two more saves, as St. Thomas was held to just two shots off target in the opening 45 minutes.
The Bison will wrap up a three-game road swing in Summit League play with a trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma, as NDSU takes on Oral Roberts on Thursday, Oct. 5. The match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff and will be streamed live on the Summit League Network.
