FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team held off South Dakota State, 3-2, to stretch their win streak to six matches on Thursday night at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Bison improved to 17-7 (9-4 Summit) on the season and completed the regular season sweep of South Dakota State (7-17, 5-7 Summit). NDSU also extended its win streak to six matches, which is its longest streak since 2017.
After the Bison took the first two frames, the Jackrabbits fought back in the third set grabbing a 19-16 lead following five straight points. SDSU, who posted a match-best .438 hitting percentage in the set, closed out the third frame, 26-24. The Jackrabbits carried the momentum into the fourth set running out to a 17-11 edge. SDSU didn't look back from there and closed out the set, 25-21, to lock the match, 2-2.
The Bison bounced back in the fifth frame opening up a 5-2 advantage following a kill from
Ali Hinze. NDSU then stretched its lead to 9-6 after
Lauren Jansen delivered a kill at the midway point. The Bison closed out frame with a 5-0 run to secure the win, 15-9, and the match, 3-2.
Hinze led the way for the Bison with her fifth straight double-double with a team-high 18 kills and 17 digs.
Kelley Johnson reached the 50-assist plateau for the fifth time this season with 52 to go along with 10 digs and five kills.
Taylor Quan led the way on the defensive side of the floor with a match-high 20 digs.
As a team, the Bison posted 69 total kills with Hinze (18), Jansen (15),
Alexis Boling (12) and
Ally Barth (12) reaching double figures. NDSU also totaled 72 digs with Quan (20), Hinze (17),
Logan O'Brien (13) and Johnson (10) all recording double digits.
NDSU will be back in action hosting Kansas City on Thursday, Nov. 9. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
