NDSU Women’s Basketball Stumbles at Iowa State, 89-59

AMES, Iowa – Three Bison reached double figures in scoring as the North Dakota State women's basketball team fell short at Iowa State, 89-59, on Sunday night in front of 9,808 fans at James H. Hilton Coliseum.

Heaven Hamling recorded a game-high 18 points after delivering four triples on five attempts. The Grand Rapids, Minn., native also distributed a season-high six assists with three rebounds and two steals. Elle Evans added 10 points with a team-best six rebounds, while Abby Schulte added 10 points of her own to round out the top performers.

As a team, the Bison (4-6) shot 30.8 percent (20-65) from the field and 90.9 percent (10-11) from the free throw line. NDSU also connected on nine triples on 26 attempts after knocking down six in the second half.

Iowa State (5-4) got off to a quick start with 10 straight points in the opening frame to grab a 17-6 advantage after Audi Crooks connected on a jumper to make the score 17-6 at the 4:37 mark. NDSU fought its way back in the second quarter after Avery Koenen and Hamling each knocked down jumpers to pull the Bison back within one, 21-20, with 8:29 to play in the half. Iowa State responded to finish the quarter with nine unanswered points to stretch its lead to 42-27 at the intermission.

The Cyclones then used a momentum-shifting 8-0 run in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 50-30 following a layup from Addy Brown with 5:51 on the clock. NDSU was unable to trim the deficit down any further over the final quarter of play and went on to drop the contest, 89-59.

NDSU will be back in action hosting Central Michigan on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m., at Scheels Center.
