FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's basketball team pulled away late for a 78-67 victory over Portland on Thursday evening inside the Scheels Center. NDSU improved to 6-4 on the season.
Junior forward
Andrew Morgan led the Bison with 16 points and six rebounds.
Jacari White scored 12 points,
Tajavis Miller had 11, and
Lance Waddles finished with 10 for NDSU. Senior
Boden Skunberg recorded a career-high six assists.
The Bison drained 12 three-pointers for the second straight game, shooting 47.5 percent overall.
The Bison built a 14-point lead at 24-10 in the first half, but Portland battled back to within three at 36-33 at halftime. The Pilots pulled ahead by one point on three different occasions in the second half, but never led by more than one.
Trailing 45-44 with 14 minutes remaining, NDSU got a bucket and three-pointer from
Jeremiah Burke on back-to-back possessions to jump back into the lead. When the Pilots tied the game at 49-49, Burke drilled another three to give NDSU the lead for good.
Both times Portland cut the deficit to within six down the stretch, Miller connected on treys to keep the victory in hand for NDSU.
NDSU hosts Oak Hills Christian on Sunday at 1 p.m.
