SACRAMENTO, Calif. – North Dakota State throwers
Trevor Otterdahl,
Matt Kraft and
Benji Phillips qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday, with each earning top-12 finishes at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.

Otterdahl, a sixth-year senior from Rosemount, Minn., placed fourth in the hammer throw by launching a career-best 231-11 (70.70m). He climbed to 10th on the national leaderboard this season.

Kraft, a junior from Bismarck, N.D., threw a career-best 234-5 (71.46m) on his final attempt in the javelin to place fourth. Phillips, a sixth-year senior from Glasgow, Mont., took eighth with a mark of 230-9 (70.35m) in the javelin.

It will be Phillips' second trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, and Kraft will be making his national meet debut on June 7 in Austin, Texas.

NDSU senior
Jacob Rodin finished second in his 800m heat in 1:48.37 to advance to Friday's quarterfinals, as the field of competitors was trimmed from 48 to 24. Rodin posted the eighth-fastest time overall on Wednesday.

Otterdahl finished 21st in the shot put with a mark of 60-11.25 (18.57m).
Cam Landis took 29th at 58-07.50 (17.87m), and
Clayton Hannula was 34th with 58-01.00 (17.70m).

Tristan Bush placed 38th in the hammer with a throw of 195-9 (59.66m).

Competition will continue Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds with the first day of women's events.
