NDSU Softball Shuts Out Omaha on Senior Day

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State softball closed out the regular season on Saturday with a 3-0 victory on senior day over Omaha at Tharaldson Park.

Senior Paige Vargas tossed a gem, as she pitched a scoreless 6.2 innings before fellow senior Lainey Lyle closed out the win with the final out. Vargas allowed just four Omaha (29-15, 15-5 Summit League) hits and had five strikeouts in her final appearance at home, picking up her 15th win of the season.

The Bison (29-19, 13-8 Summit League) took the lead in the fourth inning with a Zoe King two-RBI single to score Carley Goetschius and Anjolee Aguilar-Beaucage. Goetschius started the inning with a single and then Aguilar-Beaucage doubled off the wall in right center to set up King.

Aguilar-Beaucage would also score the other run for the Bison in the sixth inning. She picked up her second double of the game with one out and then moved to third on a King fly out to right. After a walk, Chloe Woldruff singled to left center, bring in Aguilar-Beaucage for the final run.

King and Aguilar-Beaucage each finished with two-hit games. Emilee Buringa joined Goetschius and Woldruff with the other Bison hits.

With the win, the Bison secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Summit League Tournament hosted in Brookings, South Dakota. NDSU is slated to play No. 6 seed Kansas City on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
