NDSU Women’s Basketball Grinds Out 70-59 Win at Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team grinded out a 70-59 win at Kansas City on Thursday night at Swinney Center.

Heaven Hamling paced the Bison (13-9, 7-2 Summit) with a game-high 15 points to go along with four steals, four rebounds and two assists. Abbie Draper added in 11 points with four rebounds and two assists, while Abby Schulte registered 11 points with three rebounds and two assists.

The Bison shot 43.8 percent (21-48) from the field with nine different players in the scoring column. NDSU also shot 76.7 percent (23-20) from the free throw line, including 15-of-19 from the line in the third quarter. Heaven Hamling paced the Bison at the free throw line connecting on all six attempts.

After opening up a seven-point lead at the half, 36-29, NDSU began the third quarter putting together six straight points to stretch its lead into double figures after Elle Evans knocked down a pair of free throws to make the score 46-35 with 3:49 on the clock. The Bison, who never trailed in the game, then slowly pulled away in the fourth frame with the use of an 8-0 run capped off by a three throw from Schulte to increase the edge to 70-52 with 2:05 to play. NDSU closed out the remaining time to earn the 70-59 road win.

NDSU will be back in action at Omaha on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
