FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision to Northern Colorado on Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
Northern Colorado (13-36-1, 12-16-1 Summit) jumped out a 2-0 lead in the opening frame with a two-run single into center field off the bat of Kai Wagner. The Bears then used a sacrifice fly from Carson Gross and an RBI single from Wagner to extend their lead to 4-0 in the second inning.
Craig Kenny then used another sacrifice fly to push the lead to 5-0 in the third frame. The contest went scoreless for three innings until
Cadyn Schwabe sparked the Bison (19-27-1, 14-11-1 Summit) with an RBI triple down the right line to make the score 5-1 in the sixth.
James Dunlap finished out the inning with RBI single of his own into left center pull within three, 5-2. However, NDSU went on to drop the contest, 5-2.
The Bison notched six hits as a team with
Jake Schaffner and Dunlap each going 2-of-4 at the plate.
Landon Koenig (1-3) made the start on the mound tossing two strikeouts over 3.0 innings.
Leland Wilson added 4.0 innings of relief with three strikeouts, while
Skyler Riedinger closed out the final 2.0 innings with one strikeout.
NDSU will wrap up its series with Northern Colorado tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field.
