FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State soccer's second-half push came up short Thursday night as the Bison fell 3-1 to Kansas City in Summit League play at Dacotah Field.

Morgan Russmann scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 80th minute to bring NDSU (5-11-0, 1-5-0 Summit) within one, but the Roos answered late to seal the match.
Amaya Garrett picked up an assist on Russmann's goal.Â

Kansas City (7-6-2, 2-2-1 Summit) struck early when Olivia Platt converted in the ninth minute. Platt later added a penalty kick goal in the 69th minute, before Riley Porter capped the scoring in the 87th.

The Bison controlled much of the possession, holding a 55-45 edge and outshooting Kansas City 12-6. NDSU also earned six corner kicks to three for Kansas City.

Russmann nearly gave the Bison the lead in the third minute, with a shot going just wide of the post. The sophomore also hit the inside of the post in the 19
th minute, with the rebound cutting across the front of goal before curving out for a goal kick.

Payton Mulberry made one save for the Bison, while Kansas City's Anika Patton stopped two shots to earn the win.

North Dakota State returns to action Sunday when the Bison travel to St. Paul, Minn. to take on St. Thomas. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at South Field.
