BROOKINGS, S.D. – North Dakota State soccer fell to South Dakota State 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Summit League play at Fishback Soccer Park.
Jenna Maloy scored both goals for the Jackrabbits (8-1-4, 2-0-1), with the first coming in the 33
rd minute, before sealing the win over the Bison (5-9-0, 1-3-0) in the 81
st minute on a counter attacking goal.
NDSU was held without a shot on target in the opening 45 minutes, while
Payton Mulberry made three first-half saves to see the Bison head into the break trailing 1-0.
In the second half, the Bison created several close scoring chances.
Gabrielle Garrett sailed a shot just over the crossbar and a few minutes later,
Kendall Stadden put a shot just wide into the side netting. NDSU nearly had an equalizer in the 78
th minute, as
Morgan Russmann's header was denied by Mallorie Benhart.
Mulberry finished with four more saves in the second half, totaling seven for the game.
NDSU will have a week off before taking on in-state rival North Dakota on Dakota Soccer Day on Sunday, October 12. The Bison and Fighting Hawks are set to meet at Dacotah Field in Fargo, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
