Jansen Powers NDSU Volleyball Past St. Thomas, 3-1

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team won the final three sets to earn a 3-1 victory over St. Thomas on Thursday night at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

Lauren Jansen posted a career-best 21 kills to go along with five digs, two service aces and two blocks. The Plainfield, Ill., native registered a .400 hitting percentage on 40 attempts with five errors and notched her second career 20-kill match.

Zoe John also reached double digits in kills with 11, while Rya Borer totaled a match-high 18 digs with four assists and two service aces. Cathy Porter and Maddy Dombeck handed out a team-best 19 assists each. The Bison (15-9, 9-5 Summit) combined for 10 total blocks as a team with Ally Barth totaling a team-best five.

After St. Thomas (16-9, 9-5 Summit) stole the opening set, 25-18, the Tommies quickly grabbed a 9-5 edge early in the second frame. The Bison then erupted with a momentum-shifting 12-1 run to build a 17-10 advantage with a kill from John. NDSU closed the frame on an 8-2 run to win the set, 25-13.

The Bison carried the energy into the third set with six straight points to make the score 15-10 with another kill from John. NDSU then stretched its lead to 21-13 after Jansen delivered back-to-back kills. The Bison, who registered a match-best .414 hitting percentage in the set, went on to win the frame, 25-15.

The two teams traded points in the fourth set to lock the contest, 18-18. NDSU then used a 4-1 run to build a 22-19 lead with a kill from Jansen. The Bison went on to hold off the Tommies the rest of the way to win the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-1.

NDSU will be back in action hosting Omaha on Saturday for senior night. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
