VERMILLION, S.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team came up short in the regular season finale at South Dakota, 3-0, on Tuesday night at Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
With the loss, the Bison finish the regular season with a 16-10 (10-6 Summit) overall record and will be the fourth seed in the Summit League Tournament. NDSU will face fifth-seeded Denver (17-10, 9-7 Summit) on Sunday at 6:00 p.m., at First Bank & Trust Arena in Brookings, S.D.
Lauren Jansen totaled a team-best nine kills with seven digs, while
Baily Randall contributed eight kills with seven digs.
Maddy Dombeck handed out a team-best 12 assists with four digs and
Rya Borer notched a team-high 12 digs.
The two teams traded points early in the first set to lock the contest, 9-9, with a solo block from Jansen. South Dakota (20-8, 12-4 Summit) then slowly opened up a 16-13 lead with a kill from Ava Ball. The Bison responded with a 5-1 run to grab a 18-17 advantage with an ace from
Ally Barth. However, the Coyotes answered to close the set on an 8-2 run to win the frame, 25-20.
South Dakota carried the energy into the second frame building a 14-8 lead at the midway point. The Coyotes, who hit a match-best .533 in the frame, went on to win the second set, 25-16. South Dakota continued to surge into the third frame opening up a 17-9 lead with a kill from Audrey Nelson. The Coyotes hit above .300 in all three sets and went on to win the third frame, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
