Koenen and Frost Guide NDSU Women’s Basketball Past Tulane, 83-72

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team picked up an 83-72 win over Tulane on Friday night inside the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.

With the win, the Bison improved to 3-2 overall on the season and head coach Jory Collins secured his 300th career win, which includes eight seasons at Emporia State. Tulane drops to 2-3 with the loss.

Avery Koenen logged her second straight 20-point game with a team-best 22 points and game-high 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Marisa Frost recorded a season-best 19 points with five rebounds and three steals, while Jocelyn Schiller netted 12 points with five rebounds. Karrington Asp closed out the top performers adding 10 points off the bench.

As a team, the Bison shot 48.3 percent (29-60) from the field and 77.8 percent (21-27) from the free throw line. NDSU tied a season-high 50 points in the paint and 25 points off of turnovers. The Bison also grabbed 36 rebounds in comparison to Tulane's 28.

Both teams traded points throughout most of the first half until the Bison closed the second quarter with six straight points, including a layup and jumper from Asp to make the score 37-27 at the intermission. NDSU carried the momentum into the third quarter slowly building its largest lead of night, 56-38, after Koenen delivered a jumper at the 2:14 mark.

The Green Wave made one final surge in the fourth quarter trimming the deficit down to single digits, 64-57, after back-to-back layups from Kanija Daniel with 7:12 to play. NDSU answered to quickly push its lead back into double figures after Abby Krzewinski connected on a layup to make the score 70-58 with 5:10 remaining. The Bison went to hold off the Green Wave the rest of the way for the 83-72 victory.

NDSU will be back in action against Campbell at the Osprey Thanksgiving Classic in Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday. Tip-off is set for 10:00 a.m. CT
