FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team erased a six-run deficit before falling short against Oral Roberts in 10 innings, 9-8, on Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
After Oral Roberts (27-18, 14-9 Summit) opened up a 8-2 advantage with the help of four runs in the fourth inning,
Sam Canton provided some energy for the Bison (16-28, 12-12 Summit) with an RBI double off the wall to cut the edge to 8-3 in the fifth.
Blake Timmons then cut the deficit down to three, 8-5, after he blasted a two RBI home run to right field in the seventh inning. NDSU kept the momentum going into the ninth pushing across three more runs to tie the contest, 8-8. Timmons started the frame with a two RBI triple before
Davis Hamilton capped the inning with an RBI ground out. However, Oral Roberts answered in the 10th after Wailele Kane-Yates lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to left field to help secure the 9-8 win.
As a team, the Bison totaled 15 hits with five different players logging multiple hits. Timmons paced NDSU going 4-of-4 at the plate with a career-high four runs and four RBI. He became the first Bison player since 2021 to record two triples in a single game after Peter Brookshaw accomplished the feat against Nevada on June 5, 2021.
The Bison pitching staff combined to use six different pitchers with
Danny Lachenmayer (1-4) picking up the loss with one strikeout after finishing out the final inning.
NDSU will be back in action against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Wednesday in an exhibition matchup. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field. Tickets can be purchased
