NDSU Volleyball Powers Past North Dakota, 3-0

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team closed the third set with 10 unanswered points to secure a 3-0 win over North Dakota on Saturday night at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse in front of 1,205 fans.

With the win, the Bison improved to 7-4 (1-0 Summit) and remained unbeaten at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse with a 6-0 record at home this season. NDSU has also won 14 of the last 16 meetings with North Dakota. The Fighting Hawks dropped to 4-9 (1-1 Summit) with the loss.

Lauren Jansen led the way for NDSU with a team-best 11 kills on 26 attempts for a .346 hitting percentage. She also added four digs, two blocks and one assist to her stat line. Baily Randall narrowly missed a double-double with eight kills and six digs, while Cathy Porter tallied a team-best 16 assists.

The Bison wasted no time capturing momentum after assembling a 9-1 run in the opening frame to make the score 14-5 with a service ace from Maddy Dombeck. NDSU then used another 4-1 run to extend its lead to 23-15 with a kill from Emma Tallman. NDSU went on to win the first set, 25-20.

Both teams exchanged points in the second frame until Randall connected on a kill to grab a 16-15 advantage at the midway point. NDSU then put together a clutch 5-2 run to push its edge to 22-19 with a kill from Jansen. The Bison closed out the frame, 25-21.

The two teams worked through a match-high eight ties in the third set until the Fighting Hawks stole a late 18-15 advantage with a service ace from Izzie McCormick. NDSU then closed the frame with 10 unanswered points, which included one kill and one block from Tallman to help secure the set, 25-18, and the match, 3-0.

NDSU will be back in action at Kansas City on Thursday. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
